Edwin Bryant came overland to California in 1846 in time to become a prominent figure in the California Battalion during the Mexican War. He served as Alcalde from February through May of 1847. His reminiscences " What I Saw in California" were published in 1848 and remain the authority on California 1846-7. The document is addressed to William A. Leidesdorff, agent for the Russian American Co. and thought by many to be the most prominent man in San Francisco at the time of his death in May of 1848. This document is essentially a bill for services rendered in copying documents related to suit brought by the Russian American Co. against John Sutter,4" X 8 1/4". Docketed on verso by Leidesdorff.
