This 1847 stampless folded letter was sent from John Read in Trenton New Jersey to his son John Read in Philadelphia PA . Read was a well to do and well connected person. He was born in 1769 (son of US statesman George Read). Read graduated from Princeton in 1787 and move to Philly and was admitted to the bar in 1792. He served on the Philadelphia city council. Was appointed Agent General of the United States by President John Adams. He also served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Read died in 1854. The addresse (his son) was a noted lawyer in Philadelphia. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania at age 15.
