1847 CHRISTIANEXAMINER Unitarian SLAVERY Capital Punishment …..Antique hardcover volume with three 1847 issues of the influential Unitarian journal, THE CHRISTIAN EXAMINER AND RELIGIOUS MISCELLANY, Fourth Series, volume VIII (issues: July, Sept., Nov. 1847) also numbered as XLIII. These were the issues of CHRISTIAN EXAMINER AND RELIGIOUS MISCELLANY under the direction of Alvan Lamson and Ezra Stiles Gannett. The Examiner was an important Unitarian religious review and purveyor of work in literary criticism and social, philosophical, and educational thought. Its scope was broad; history, biography, theology, and even political discussions were given space in it. Highlights of these issues include a lengthy piece on JOHN WESLEY, a lecture on NATURE AND CHRISTIANITY, a piece on DR PAYSON AND HIS WRITINGS (on Edward Payson, compiled by Asa Cummings), a lengthy piece on MORAL WRONG OF SLAVERY, and a 22 page piece on ABOLITION OF CAPITAL PUNISHMENT.
