This old caddy has been in our family (New England) at least since 1875. We are not sure of it's origin... but there is a chance it made the journey with relatives from England when they settled here in the early 1860's. It is a great old piece... but we are scaling down our living arrangements and have way too much. The caddy measures (largest dimensions) approximately 6 & 1/4"L x 5"W x 6"H. It is made of brass and lined with tin or lead. I believe it probably had a liner with an inner lid originally. I do not know the terminology for the method in which this caddy was made, but the bottom section (all but the lid) is made of at least 3 sections. It is definitely hand made with hand tooled adornments. Although the brass lid ornament/finial is slightly crooked... upon careful inspection I believe that it has been this way from day one. The hinge appears to have been re-soldered at some point in time (prior to my possession). It is in nice shape with only age-typical small dings and scratches. I prefer the old patina... but it would probably polish up nicely. We happily combine shipping whenever possible & take great care in packing!
