1850-1860s ANTIQUE ENGLISH CONTINENTAL TAVERN~INN PEWTER QUART TANKAND MEASURE ENGRAVED/MONOGRAMMED with TAVERN~INN NAME INITIALS & SIGNED VR with a "CROWN & CROSS" ENGLISH TOUCHMARK. This is a signed, English Continental, Antique, Tavern~Inn Pewter Quart Tankard which is monogrammed with the fancy cursive 1800s font script of the name of the Tavern~Inn (please see pics provided). The Quart size measure has the number "3" incised into the pewter while the letters "QUART" are raised (see pics provided). There are also small impressed numbers/letters on opposite side of handle (see pics) as the measures at a Tavern & Inn needed to be inspected at intervals and were regularly marked. The indicated weight verification/capacity of the measure means that the pewter Tankard was inspected by the official "Weights & Measures" Inspector c. 1850s. The Touchmark under the rim is "VR" with a Cross symbol and a Crown verifying that the piece was made during the period identified and during the early reign of Queen Victoria with the monarch's initials, also identifying piece was made in England and is of Continental origin (see pics).The engraved initial monogram "HSL" on front identify this piece as being an 1850s-1860s Tavern~Inn quart Tankard Measure as a measure was used in Inns and Taverns at that time for sale of ales and brews for measured read more
