1850 P3CS Three Cent Silver, Judd-125, Pollock-147, R.4, PR64 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Benson. A Liberty cap dominates the obverse, surrounded by rays; obviously inspired by the Mexican Cap and Rays design. LIBERTY is near the base of the cap; the date 1850 appears below. On the reverse, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA frames a circular palm branch that encloses the Roman numeral III. Struck in silver with a plain edge. Franklin Peale is credited with adapting James Longacre's designs. Subdued gray-lilac and rose toning covers each side with significant underlying reflectivity in the fields.Ex: Hollinbeck Stamp and Coin Co.
