1851 $5 MS62 PCGS. Undoubtedly the result of California gold discoveries, mintages of gold coins in distant Philadelphia were substantial in the early 1850s. While most of those coins entered circulation, a few survive in higher grades, such as this pleasing Mint State specimen. Both sides are brilliant and frosty with bright yellow surfaces and scattered marks. Population: 20 in 62, 8 finer (9/11).From The Christmas Lake Collection.
