The New England Almanac1852By Nathan DabollNew London, ConnecticutI'm offering this week several issues of this great almanac that was especially popular with seamen and whalers. Will be happy to combine shipping on multiple wins for the cheapest possible postage.Starting in 1844, for nearly 50 years this almanac provided an annual list of "Ships Engaged in the Whale Fishery". As the years went by, the list grew shorter and shorter, to only a pitiful list of less than a half-dozen ships by the early 1890s.In this almanac, 2 1/3 pages are dedicated to a list of whaling ships from New London, Stonington, Sag Harbor, & Mystic. Each page provides details for about 40 ships, and the list provides the name of each vessel, tonnage, Shipmaster's last name, Ship's Agents, and date sailed.Additionally, there are a further two pages that provide a list of the buoys, beacons, and spindles in the District of New London. The bouys in Long Island and Fisher's Island Sounds are listed from Branford Harbor and going east to Montauk.Condition of this issue: Fair-good, overall clean but one leaf (page 23-24) has been removed, thus 15 of 16 leaves (30 of 32 pages) present. Whaling information is intact. Binding string is partially gone so that the almanac is separated into two sections held together only at the top corner. Top corners of a few pages read more
