Description This auction is for a vintage US Marine Corps 1852 model noncommissioned officers (NCOs) sword. It is patterned after the U.S. Army's foot officers' sword of 1850, with minor differences. Marine NCO swords feature a cast-brass hilt with a half-basket guard; leather-wrapped grip bound with twisted brass wire; a slightly curved, single-edged blade with a wide central fuller and short false edge; and a black-leather scabbard with two brass mounts, including an upper mount with a stud for carrying in a leather belt frog, and a brass tip with drag. This sword is marked "Hilborn Hamburger Inc, New York Made in Solimgen Germany" on one side and "Proved" on the other- so you know it is quality. T is detailed etching on three sides of the blade that is very attractive. It reads United States Marines and has the marine insignia on it. I have been told this probably dates to the WWII era, but please see photos to make your own determination. This is not a cheap replica, it is the real deal that has been very well kept.
