1853 Scotish Gael Celtic Manners Highlanders James Logan. Offered for sale is a vintage 19th century book covering the history of Scotland, full title: ”The Scotish Gael, or Celtic Manners as Preserved among the Highlanders” . Written by James Logan, and published in Hartford by S. Andrus & Son in 1853, this is the stated “Fifth American Edition”. Book has leather binding, measures about 6 ¼” by 9 ¼”, and contains 520 pages, including the index. Very few black & white illustrations throughout this book – this is a fairly comprehensive text on Scotland’s history. There’s a full-page color tartan pattern at front of book entitled: “Pattern of the Tartan worn by His Royal Highness, the Duke of Sussex as Earl of Inverness”, along with 3 additional black & white plates showing Highland Chiefs, Royal Arms of Scotland and a Royal Bagpiper. NOTE: The overall internal portion of the binding on this copy is complete and tight, but the covers will have to be rebound at some point: front cover is nearly detached, and the rear board is completely detached, and chips are missing at top and bottom of a heavily worn spine. Page edges are marbled, and first few preliminary pages are slightly loosening toward top edge, but rest of book internally is tight and free of discoloration. I would call this book a good reading copy, and a binding “fix-up” read more
