1853 French ten centimes with the "H. E. MITCHELL / EDGE TOOL / GRINDING MILLS / 4. NORTH ROAD / BRIGHTON" counterstamp. Listed in the Brunk reference as C-759 on page 69. A large and impressive counterstamp from this Brighton, Sussex sawmaker and toolmaker. H. E. Mitchell was in business from 1872 to 1893, and his firm continued until 1899. One of nine examples on a French ten centimes of this exact mark. Another is found on an 1856 five centimes. This is H. E. Mitchell's curved punch...he also had a three-line straight punch that was simpler and more-often seen, also on French or Italian coins. Offered with no reserve.
