This 1854 type 1 "closed" wreath gold dollar was minted in Philadelphia. At 13mm (1/2 inch) in diameter, it is the smallest coin in U.S history. The coin itself weighs 1.672 grams with a composition of .900 gold and .100 copper. With the ring it weighs approximately 1.7 grams. The aperture measures 1/16 inch wide.
