Historical, Geographical and Archeological notes and fold-out maps depicting battle plans, sieges etc greatly facilitate the readers understanding of the Gallic War and how it was waged with such great success. Contains a large 13" x 14" fold-out map of Ancient France showing the geography, principle cities, and tribal divisions as it was at the time of the wars. Anthon's work on the Gallic Wars is much more than just a textbook as it contains the Greek Paraphrase, extensive notes on both the Latin and the Paraphrase along with geographical, historical and archeological notes. A great deal has gone into the commentary showing the workings of the Roman military and its capabilities.CONDITION : 1855.
