1855 London Illustrated News - 1855 Penny Stamps Engravers This is a collection of about 25 issues of the London Illustrated News from July 7 1855 to Dec 29 1855 which published weekly consisting of 776 pages - 16"high by 11" wide loaded with over 100 engravings including the color engravings in the Dec 22, 1855 Christmas issues with one of a Christmas Carol by Phiz also in the Christmas supplement is J. Gilbert's Shephers and Flock - lots of stores on Crimean War - articles and high engravings of Queen Victoria's visit to France and Europe in 1855. On Aug, 18 there is a 2 page engraving of Henry VIII and Francis I - all issues were mailed from Birmingham England to T. Bungum in Concord NH and most issues have the brown one penny stamps or parts thereof - some are on bluish paper and have different letters at the bottom of each stamp such as SE and SD. Illustrators include: Landscape by Karl Girardet, the Watering Place by Rosa Bonheur, Dogs in Forest by P. Diaz, The Cavern by Celestin Nanteuil All issues are bound into one large volume 2 page map of Russia as it was in 1855 Some pages have a very few brown spots and few knicks, but overall the huge volume is neat and tight and in fine condition - far better than most 1855 books.
