Up for auction is an early, pre-Civil War edition of MAHOMET AND HIS SUCCESSORS , by Washington Irving. Published by G. P Putnam in 1860. 500 pages. This is Volume II of what was originally a two-volume set; this volume covers the rise of Islam from the death of Mohammed in 632. Book bound in brown pebbled cloth with gilt-stamped lettering on spine. Tissue-protected frontispiece shows the city of Medina. Book was also part of a uniform set of Irving�s works, and was Volume XIII of that set. A very well-preserved copy, with clean pages and strong hinges. Bookplate inside front cover. In VERY GOOD PLUS condition overall. 04.11.023
