Prindle's Almanac 1860 New Haven, Connecticut Neat old ads! One ad for Pinkerman's Cigar Store in New Haven, which also mentions The Celebrated Robinson's XXX Ale. "Lovers of the "WEED," in every style of manufacture, cannot do better than to invest their dimes in Pinkerman's large and well selected stock of cigars, chewing and smoking tobacco, snuff, &c. Cigar cases, Meerschaum holders, and Pipes of every description." Another ad is for a New Haven restaurant that specialized in Oysters, and featured a bar well stocked with "the choicest wines, liquor, and cigars". And - this is a hoot - in a sign of the times, it's noted that this bar has a "SIDE ENTRANCE for Ladies accompanied by Gentlemen." Another ad for a steamboat express service between New Haven and New York, and another for furniture that sounds just like today's super-annoying ads that tell you you can get a whole room of furniture for next to nothing: "Furnish Your Parlors! A sofa, a card table, a stuffed rocker, six stuffed chairs, and 2 crickets for $45!" Condition of this issue: Published in New-Haven by Peck, White, & Peck. Both front cover and final leaf torn all the way across, but repaired with crude stitching (a sign of how these old almanacs were often carefully kept and preserved back in the day, even if damaged).
