Bright yellow small cover, late 1860's, with black "MACON STATION/ALA." cds, and #94 3c rose, with black target cancel. Addressed to Mr. A.T. Stewart, at Chambers & Broadway Streets, New York City - Alexander T. Stewart , was a millionaire who founded the largest department store in the U.S. in the 1860's. After his death, his store was bought by Wanamaker's. President Grant nominated Stewart to be his first Secretary of the Treasury, but an arcane law prevented his qualifying for the post. A scarce Alabama DPO on an attractive cover. Fine-Very Fine.
