Long before the Feedsack print quilts of the 20s and 30s came this Historical 19th Century Quilt Ideal for the creative talented cutter or Historian Cratsman Restorer I would date the quilt to the 1860s at the least Approximately 72 by 73 inches It is entirely handsewn. The wide variety of fabrics include silks, heavy workwear cottons, prairie calicos, mourning fabrics and colors, ginghams and brocades plus many more. This quilt is NOT in excellent condition. The lovely prairie calico backing is not shredded, but shows age wear. The front blocks are handpieced strips sewn to a cotton backing all by hand, and some of the strips are deteriorated. This especially shows in the corners which seem to have seen the most wear. The homestead auction this quilt came from was settled in the 1860s and had amazing period pieces. The family held on to unbelievable amounts of quality heirlooms. T is no batting in the quilt. The weight comes from the folded strips creating the patterned blocks. This is a delight to the eyes, and a wonderful piece of primitive country American History! Although not tattered to the point of no use, this quilt does have issues and they are mentioned. Please don't bid if you are expecting a quilt in fanastic condition. I cannot accept returns based on the condition when I am describing it to the best of my ability. read more
