An ORIGINAL antique 1861 map of CUBA and JAMAICA from JOHNSON'S New Illustrated FAMILY ATLAS. Inset maps at the lower left show PUERTO RICO and HAVANA. Provinces are individually HAND WATERCOLORED and colors are still vibrant. Dozens of stagecoach and wagon roads are shown on the islands and a dozen or so early railroads are shown on CUBA. This map is exceptionally rare because later editions of Johnson's Atlas meerly show Cuba smaller and in much less detail on a map of the entire West Indies. Among the finest maps produced during the 19th Century, Johnson's maps were used extensively during the Civil War. The map measures 14 by 18 inches and is perfect for matting and framing. There is a bit of light dampstaining at the upper right corner. This ORIGINAL antique map is guaranteed over 145 years old, published during the CIVIL WAR.
