Here is the rarest large head $1 that Dahlonega Mint ever produced with a mintage of a very low 1,250. Since the U.S. government enacted the Pittman Act and the gold recall no one knows how many of these still exist today and having one with atleast an XF40 grade is very high. Knowing that a dollar was alot of money in 1861,the coin is only 9/16th of an inch wide, they could have easily fallen from someone's pocket. I think the coin was in a ring at one time. The slab does say that it's a mount removed and improperly cleaned. It is graded by NGC's sister company of NCS and guaranteed authentic. The only part that is damaged is on the reverse with the date missing from removing it from jewelry. Considering this it still has nice eye appeal. $1 and the "D" mint mark are clearly visible. Red book has it valued at $24,000 if it was not damaged. Thanks for looking.
