Rare Civil War era fractional currency bank note. Local bank issue from Saratoga County Bank Waterford NY. 25c denomination dated Nov 1st 1862 shortly after passage of the law allowing fractional notes. Wonderful engraved image of Edwin Stanton in his first year as Secretary of War. Earliest appearance of Stanton on US currency. Note measures 2 3/8" x 4 5/8". Some light folds. Clean 1/4" tear along vertical fold above Stanton. Printed only one side. Hand ink signed. . Buyer pays $2.75 mail.
