1863 dated 75-cent Civil War local scrip note issued by the Marine Bank of Savannah, Georgia.The Confederate state governments didn't begin issuing fractional currency until 1863, leaving it up to banks and local authorities to provide the means with which to conduct day-to-day commerce. The Confederate Treasury only issued fifty-cent notes starting in 1863, and no other fractional denominations at all.
