You are bidding on an extremely Rare Fixed Globe Lantern where only this one is known.. And YES.....The letters on the cast globe are that big, the Panel measures a full 2 by 3 inches and the letters themselves are 3/4 of an inch tall.. The casting is in very high relief with the letters sticking out so you can see them across a room.. This road predates and went into, the Concord & Montreal Railroad and is probably from the 1860s.. The globe is VERY TALL and is about 7&3/4 inches tall.. This lantern was found by Gordon Alling one of the pioneers in KL&L and was discovered at Brimfield's Antique Market in about 1965.. It has been in my (Tom Walsh) collection for at least 40 years.. It is in Dick Barrett's Book on RR Lanterns on page 31.. When Gordon found this Lantern the frame was a junker so he reframed it with an identicle Frame that he found that was the same in every way.. The plaster is bone white.. I have been tempted to age the plaster but have never done it.. The frame has amost all of the original japanning on it and is obviously in mint condition.. The globe is free of cracks and chips even the parts around the plaster not seen from the outside.. The globe is very thick & heavy and weighs about 3 pounds.. If you are a New England RR Collector this is a must have centerpiece for your collection.. Below is a brief history
