1866 Hannover Langensalza Medal I'm listing these medals from my elderly cousins estate. They were all won (and some were acquired) by Baron Wilhelm Von Karstedt. 's a 1866 Hannover Langensalza Medal, with the name H. THIEKE impressed into its rim. Comes with original ring, no ribbon. Overall finish is dirty, could be greatly improved with a cleaning, some dark spots on both sides, 60% original finish I googled Wilhelm Von Karstedt, and learned that he was one of the earliest Airplane pilots for the German Army in WW1 from 1914-1918. He was stationed on the Western Front, and once crashed his plane deep across the French enemy lines, he evaded capture from the irate locals, and made it back through the forest to his unit w he was promptly arrested for 3 days for not having set fire to his crashed plane as were the customery orders at the time 's the website (in German), that details his service and this story: http://www.frontflieger.de/2-ffa013.html 's the same link translated through google 's a more detailed account, on another WW1 site, the Aerodrome: Aerodrome...
