1866 Syracuse, Andrew Dickson White, Letter as President of Cornell University Andrew Dickson White (1831-1918) - A co-founder and President of Cornell University, 1866-1885. Autograph letter signed ink, A. D. White, Nov. 12, 1866, Syracuse, to My dear Prof. Russel. Back page notes W. C. Russel.* Content: Possible professorship of Modern Languages by Russel -- mentions salary, terms; expenses, payment for Europe. White's handwriting is hard to read, but most words and meaning decipherable. For some reason, erroneously docketed "J D White", but this is clearly the president noted above. *William C. Russel (1814-1896) an educator; later VP of Cornell and Acting President 1881. Size: 7.75" x 9.5", 4pp Condition: Faded ink, scattered stains. Else good Original item.
