This is the neatest old Lantern I have ever run across! It is a box shape lamp with an oil or Kerosene(I'm sorry, I don't know the difference!) thing inside-the type that fits securely on your finger!. I'm guessing that if you needed to move around you could open the box and take out the little oil and flame thing and if you were in a room this was your light. This particular piece has decorative metal Roses on the front so maybe a ladies lamp? Anyway the outer box is a hardwood with the original finish. The interior appears to be tin and maybe some other metal. The oil part may be brass and reads "Union Lamp Co Bridgeport, Conn Patent March 17, 1863". The back of the box says(in a decal under the Varnish) "Patented Aug. 1867". The box measures 9" x 8" x 6 1/4" and appers to be in excellent condition for it's age. I will leave the cleaning and oiling uo to you. T is a handle on top for east carrying and the sides each have a vent hole. A very neat and rare piece! Please, Please, Please!! E-mail me with any questions-I welcome them! Buyer pays S, H,& I. I accept money orders, paypal, or checks (10 day clear-PLEASE!-No Cash!). I cannot always include flat postage as postage is almost all based on zone now! Using eBays shipping calculator(when a Flat rate in not included) will be really helpful in calculating postage rates.
