Very rare, 1868 Horatio Seymour / Francis P. Blair Presidential Election Ballot from the State of Pennsylvania printed in the Pennsylvania Dutch or Pennsylvania German language using traditional Pennsylvania German letter fonts. This wonderful, "ethnic" and "foreign language" Presidential Campaign Ballot measures approx. 3 3/8" x 6" and has text at the top that reads "National Demokratisches Ticket". This is followed by printed text that reads "Für Präƒident: / Horatio Seymour, / von New York." and "Für Vice-Präƒident: Frank P. Blair, von Miffouri". The remainder of the Ballot lists the Democratic candidates for the Pennsylvania State Senate. While we have handled dozens of 19th century Presidential Election Ballots over the past 31+ years, this is the first example we have ever come across that was printed in a language other than English and we believe the Ballot offered here it be very rare. In 1868 President Andrew Johnson failed to capture the Democratic Presidential nomination and the Democratic National Convention saw 21 ballots taken with no candidate emerging as a consensus favorite. As the 22 ballot began the name of the Convention President Horatio Seymour was placed in nomination above his own objections.
