M W.Madras, Printed and sold at the Christian knowledge society's press; London, Sold by Trübner and Co., 1868. 1st Ed; Vol I (Telugu Only)Scarce collection of Telugu proverbs, sayings, quotations and moral statements, here with the Telugu text preceding the English translation, as shown . Vol II, containing the Sanskrit proverbs, is not present. Title page printed in red and black. Scholars copy, bound in green cloth w/ gilt titling to the spine, hinges intact. Measures 10" x 6.5". Clean text, slightly browned and toned, a few small chips, else fine. Leaves all bound; every other leaf is a blank allowing for the studious scholar to add some penned notes, which a few of the blanks contain. Additional signatures applied to top corners of first few leaves, as shown in the pics, of what looks to be Rev John W Gordon, who was one of the contributors to the first translations of the Telugu Holy Bible in the mid 1800s. Complete; 280pp. Rare.
