Anything illegal that went on in the tiny town of Edinburgh, New York from 1869 to 1890 is recorded in this ledger. Edinburgh has a population of 1384 as of the 2000 census, so I imagine it was a lot smaller 143 years ago. The court was resided over by Lucien Partridge with everything from land disputes, to assaults, to money owed, to probate matters. There are a lot of receipts placed within this book also for money paid to the court. Some examples: John Hermicutt against Norton L. Carey in the presence of Lucien Partridge, Justice of the Peace, do hereby confess judgment in favor of the above named plaintiff for one hundred and eighty two dollars and sixty cents on a demand arising on contract.
