Up for auction is this rare amber colored whale oil lamp made by the Bakewell Pierce Company in the 1870's and called the "almond thumbprint" pattern. This whale oil lamp measures 9 3/4" high from it's 3 1/2" eight-sided base to the top of the brass threaded spout. The graduated almond thumbprint pattern is on a six (6) sided font that is made out of very thick glass. Weighs 2 1/2 lbs. before packaging. The threaded brass spout has an 7/8" opening in case the buyer wants to attach an electrical receptacle to it for illumination. Finding amber colored glass in whale oil lamps is very rare and one in excellent condition with no chips or cracks is even rarer. A great find for the collector of antique whale oil lamps or for the buyer who wants a beautiful amber colored "almond thumbprint" whale oil lamp from the 1870's to feature in his or her home or to use for the purpose it was made.
