RARE Original Antique 1872 Snowdrift Mine Surveying Book, Filled Out & Belonging to Ernest Le Neve Foster, Snowdrift Silver Mine, Clear Creek County, Colorado. This booklet has soiling on the covers, inside of the covers & the first & last couple of pages, the rest of the inside is relatively clean. Printed on the front it say: Surveying Book. Below that is handwritten: E. Le Neve Foster. This 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" lined booklet is a personal surveying book that belonged to Ernest Le Neve Foster. There's 18 pages that are filled in with Foster's handwriting pertaining to the Snowdrift Silver Mine in Clear Creek County, Colorado. (In between Georgetown & Silver Plume, Colorado) There's no writing on the rest of the pages in the booklet. It's dated 1872 and Foster writes down the magnetic bearings & remarks about them. It's a rare & unusual piece of Colorado mining history that is sure to be interesting to any mining collector. ***From a smoke free environment.***Ernest Le Neve Foster (1849-1925) was born in Surry, England. In 1868, he attended London's Royal School of Mines in 1868 and the King's and Emperor's Mining Academy in Freiburg, Germany in 1869. For his first mining experience, he developed gold mines in the Italian Alps. Foster first visited Georgetown, Colorado in 1870, and became a resident in 1872. During the next twenty years, read more
