Charles Knight (1791–1873) was an influential Victorian English publisher and author, and this HALF-HOURS WITH THE BEST AUTHORS was one of his most popular creations. It’s a year’s worth of readings of poetry, nonfiction and fiction prose (each volume with 90 selections), taken from what the Victorians considered the “best” authors…. From Shakespeare and Milton to Thackeray, Dickens, Lord Byron and Coleridge. Each with a steel engraved frontis with a composite of portraits of some of the authors.
