Up for auction is a handsome antique leather-bound edition of two important early collections of poetry by Victor Hugo, part of the OEURVRES OF VICTOR HUGO published in Paris by Alphonse Lemerre in 1875. The two works are his 1837 collection of poetry, LES VOIX INTERIEURES (THE INNER VOICES), and his 1840 collection LES RAYONS ET LES OMBRES (BEAMS AND SHADOWS). 356 pages in all. Text entirely in French. Tissue-protected frontispiece depicting sketch of the Hugo. A small 4-1/2� x 7� book, bound in three quarter morocco, with gilt-stamped decorations in compartments of ribbed spine. Gilt-edged perimeter to leather, and top page edge gilded as well. Leather rubbed and worn, but hinges are firm and pages clean. Marbled endpapers. In VERY GOOD condition overall. Rare. 04.10.043
