1875 JEAN MILLET AUCTION CATALOG HOTEL DROUOT PARIS PHOTOS ARE BELOW.This auction has tremendous historical importance of which no other auction sale can attest: A young and unknown Vincent Van Gogh visited the auction sale, and wrote to his brother Theo on June 29th: "I don't know whether I have written to you about it or not, but t has been a sale of drawings by Millet. When I entered the hall of the Hotel Drouot, w they were exhibited, I felt like saying, 'Take off your shoes, for the place w you are standing is Holy Ground'". Millet had died the previous January, but his work would influence the 22 year-old from that day on. Five years later, after he decided to become an artist, Vincent would go on to copy many of Millet's works. The auction catalog sale is dated May 10 & 11, 1875. 61 pages. 6 1/8" x 9 3/8".
