Be sure to add me to your favorites list ! *** *** Chuck & Ruth's Antiques & Collectables *** *** Welcome, Up For Auction *** Circa 1877 French Bayonet Sword & Scabbard Excellent condition no rust on Sword and a very small amount of surface rust elsewhere. Scabbard measures 21 1/8", the Sword measures 20 5/8", the total length of the Bayonet is 26". Model 1874 "Gras" Sword Bayonet, very nice patina on the hardwood handle and Brass Pommel with working Integral Latching Mechanism with push button steel spring. Steel Crossguard and Hooked Quillion (Blade Breaker) made in 1877, (Details of manufacture inscribed on the spine of the blade that reads: "Mre d' Armes De St Etienne Fiurieu or (Fiuriev) 1877 ". This amazing Bayonet Sword has several very clear Hallmarks. At the hilt of the Blade is the letter "M" inside a circle and the letter "V" in a circle with a "Crown" above. On the steel guard of the handle at the hooked point is stamped the letter "V" in a circle with a "Star" above. On the other side of the hooked guard is the serial # H 63466 and 3 more hallmarks, the letter "T" in a circle with a "Star" above, a letter "M" in a circle and the letter "G" inside the shape of a shield. The Blade on the Sword is in remarkable condition, just needs a good polishing. Also the Sword fits nice a snug in the Scabbard. It is very Rare to find one of these French "Bayonet Swords" with a "Scabbard" and in this condition. On the inside leg part of the Scabbard where it was worn by the soldier is slightly worn with a few small scratches and some light spotty surface rust. Now on the outside of the Scabbard, worn away from the body, its stunning with a gun blued satin patina. This Scabbard also retains the Ball at its tip which is sometimes broken off. The Ball at the tip is stamped with the number 4 and the other end of the Scabbard has the serial # N 8001. *** Very Hard To Find in This Condition *** *** No Reserve, Good Luck Bidding *** *** Shipping and Handling: We prefer to use Priority Mail for our shipping because of the free boxes, free tracking and quick delivery (2-3 business days).
