The title page reads in part : "The Lights and Tides of the World, Together with the Variation & and Dip of the Magnetic Needle. Fourth Edition. London, E.: James Imray & Son, Chart Publishers and Nautical Booksellers, 89 & 102, Minories. 1878. [Price 7 s.]."Manuscript inscription in ink on verso of front end-paper reads : "This Book Belongs to Frederick Williams of Baltimore Maryland U.S.A. Mate and Bord Bark Silicon of New York." With erased pencil markings which read: "Malta Rock of Malta."The book measures 9 1/2 X 7 1/2 inches; (small 4to); hardcover; professionally rebound in 1/4 tan leather on modern brown cloth boards with gilt stamped letters on red leather spine label; new end-papers; front board retains original gilt stamped decorated portion of publisher's cloth showing a lighthouse; several small holes along edges of title page, preface page and last page of catalog; previous owners name in ink on front end-paper with erased pencil markings; age toning, foxing spots & small stains on title page and throughout entire contents; second folding map separated along fold with losses along separation; small book-worn hole in upper margins of pages 215 - 218; text block tight; 223 pages + 56 page publisher's catalog dated 1875.The folding frontis is a Tidal Chart of the World and has a bit of foxing.
