We're pleased to offer this wonderful circa 1880 Primitive Round Handwoven Splint Gathering Basket in Old Style Blue Paint being offered with No Reserve! This is a round basket used for gathering vegetables from the garden or eggs. It is made of hand split oak splint with a stationary hand carved hickory handle. The handle has a very old repair, adding character to the basket. The wooden rim is also hand carved as can be seen beneath the single wrap weaving. This basket is in Old Style Blue Paint which is not old but is painted, oxidized, aged and seemingly authentic. The patina is great. The basket is in very good condition with only a couple minor breaks which are barely visible. It measures 14" high overall, 5" high from the base to the rim and 9" from the rim to the top of the handle. It is about 12 3/4" in diameter. It is from rural North Carolina.
