Very rare and very beautiful, ca1880 Tin Lithograph John A. Andrews & Co. vertical Tea Tin decorated with views of the Boston Tea Party manufactured by Ginna & Co. This outstanding, upright, straight sided Tea Tin measures approx. 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" and 4 1/2" tall. It originally contained 1/2 pound of John A. Andrews & Co. "Triumph Brand" Formosa Oolong Tea. The tin is elaborately decorated on the front and back panels with identical scenes of Colonial Patriots dressed as Indians dumping chests of tea from a British ship into Boston Harbor while another group of "Indians" in the foreground row toward the British ship. T is advertising text on the side panels and intricate and beautiful flourishes and borders on all sides. On the top of the lid is a long text description of the 1773 act of civil disobedience forever known as "The Boston Tea Party". The tin signed by the Lithographer and was manufactured by Ginna & Co of New York - one of the finest makers of Tin Lithograph Advertising items of the late 19th century. This stunning Ginna & co. decorated tin is in very good condition - the colors are bright and vibrant and the lithography dark and bold. The tin retains its original lid which opens and closes tightly. The lithographed surface is stable but t is some minor flaking and small spots of chipping to the surface on all side panels.
