William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878) was an American poet in the romantic school and was an editor of the New York Evening Post. He was one of the best known American poets of the mid-19th century, and he wrote glowingly of Nature and natural things. He was also an abolitionist and wrote a number of anti-slavery poems. Perhaps his best-known poem was "Thanatopsis", or a meditation on death, which has a strong natural theme. Be sure to check out our other auctions.
