Original 1881 New Year TOMBSTONE Arizona Territory Calling Card This is an original 1881 card of several prominent Democrats of the Arizona Territory. H.M. (Harry) Woods was the publisher of the Tombstone Nugget Newspaper. In January of 1881, just a few months before the infamous Gunfight at the OK Corral, Sheriff Johnny Behan appointed Woods Undersheriff of of the newly formed Cochise County. Behan had promised the Undersheriff position to Wyatt Earp, but reneged on the deal and instead appointed Woods to the position. The Tombstone Nugget's reporting of the events surrounding the OK Corral gunfight was a major factor in forming neagative public opinion towards the Earp's. John J. Gosper was the Territorial Secretary and was considered one of the most colorful and flamboyant of the territorial officials of Arizona J.F. Knapp was the Speaker of Territorial House of Representatives Donald Robb was a member of the Territorial House of Representatives from Pinal County The card measures 4 1/4" x 2 1/4".
