1882 PENNSYLVANIA GETTYSBURG COLLEGE PHOTOGRAPHS PRINTS Description: OFFERED HERE is a very scarce 1882 first edition, The Pennsylvania College Book, 1832-1882. E.S. Breidenbaugh, Editor. Published for the Alumni Association of Pennsylvania College by the Lutheran Publication Society, Philadelphia. Remarkable prints. Keep in mind that in 1882, publishers could not print photographs onto book paper. They had to either make wood or steel engravings from the photos, or laboriously bind and mount original photographs by hand. That is the case here, with dozens of photographs that were hand bound into the book. We note a lot of the pictures were taken in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. And the school pictured here is now called Gettysburg College. THERE are dozens of original photographs, including portraits. Bound in blue pebbled leather grained cloth, 9x6 inches, 475 pages. A few of the prints are detached, as they were difficult to bind in, the paper stock is completely different from the regular book paper. We can re-attach these if you so request.
