1883 Cast Iron Lion and Two Monkeys Mechanical Bank Excellent paint and good condition. As with many examples of the Lion and Two Monkeys bank, the baby monkey has an issue. He is attached fine to the mother monkey, but has been cracked in places. He is solid though. Bright original paint remains in most areas and all eyes are excellent. This desirable 1883 Lion and Two Monkeys mechanical bank would be a nice addition to any collection. Patented July 17, 1883 . This bank is one of FIVE I am currently auctioning. Please see my other auctions for the remaining four banks (Jolly N**, Frogs, William Tell and Trick Dog) . For those unfamiliar with this particular bank, the bank operates by placing a penny in the hand of the mother monkey. Turning a branch at the base tilts the mother and baby monkey forward and the penny falls in the open mouth of the lion. Please note this bank has not been cleaned and should be left to a professional. Enhanced true colors can be revealed by professional cleaning. Beware of reproductions for any antique mechanical bank. This bank is authentic and recently appraised by Kichline Appraisals in Atlanta, Ga Please and don't hesitate to ask any and all questions about this item.
