The observatory was relatively new having been completed just several years prior to 1886. T's lots of historical information on James Lick, the monetary trust that was formed in his name to build the observatory, the problems in obtaining the 30 inch lens for the large telescope planned for the site, the different buildings that made up the entire compound, and more.
