Purple paper covered boards, cloth spine and corner tips. 11 3/4 by 9 3/8 inches. 204 pages. Seventeen issues . Some wear to covers. Chip missing from front free endpaper. Some short sears to page edges. One leaf detached and folded. Please see the photographs, which can be enlarged and are part of the description . The first magazine for American Jewish Children, founded by Rabbi Max Lilienthal in 1874 and discontinued in 1892. Printed on the left side of the masthead: The Sabbath Visitor is published weekly in the interest of Jewish Sabbath-schools, and for the instruction and entertainment of young Israel at large . An 1882 for the paper in the A. W. Ayer & Sons Newspaper Annual has an advertisement claiming the paper had a circulation of 6,100. Another listing in the same annual states 3,900. The paper was for older children and had serialized fiction, letters from children around the country, discussion of Jewish issues, and advertisements. I could find no listings of any for sale or having been sold. It was a weekly paper, and it seems few were saved and no complete years were sold by the publisher. This is guaranteed to be as described and pictured and is returnable within 14 days if it is not.
