Royal Worcester Lizard Ewer Description: Royal Worcester Aesthetic Movement porcelain ewer with raised gilt flowers and leaves and detailed gilt lizard wrapped around neck and forming handle. Printed crowned circle with 1888 mark. Condition: Excellent with some minor wear to the gilding at high points as shown Age: 1888 Size: 9" by 5 " wide Notes: The Royal Worcester porcelain factory founded in 1751 is the oldest continuously operating English porcelain factory still in production today. Royal Worcester was given its Royal Warrant in 1789 by King George III, allowing use of the Royal Coat of Arms and the words 'Manufacturers to their Majesties'. The company retains this warrant today. The Aesthetic Movement started in the 1860's when after 100 years of isolation the Japanese started to trade with Europe again. Royal Worcester produced some of the finest examples of Aesthetic ceramics with Japoniste influenced designs delicately hand painted and gilt.
