The Deerslayer is the first of the " Leatherstocking Tales " of James Fenimore Cooper. Set in the Pre- Revolutionary War American Colonial period , we meet Natty Bumppo as a young man living in upstate New York in the early 1740's. The action begins as Bumppo, called "Deerslayer," and his friend Hurry Harry approach Lake Glimmerglass, or Oswego , where the trapper Thomas Hutter lives with his daughters, the beautiful Judith and the feeble-minded Hetty. When Hutter's floating log fort is attacked by Iroquois Indians , the two frontiersmen join in the fight. ** Very Good Condition ** The binding is in Uncommonly Nice Condition, with almost no sign of wear. [ see the photos ] The Hinges are Tight. No markings. Former owner's name on the front endpaper, and "No. 30." The paper has mellowed/ toned, but is still reasonably flexible. The Pages are otherwise
