1890-1899 Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack 9 issues: 1890, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895, 1898 x 2, 1899 By John Gruber This week I'm listing many original, vintage copies of the Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack, the second oldest almanac in the United States, which began in 1797. (Only the Old Farmer's Almanac, by Robert B. Thomas, has a slightly longer history, having begun in 1793.) For the almanacs I'm offering, I will try to point out any major flaws, such as missing or partial pages, large tears or stains, etc. For many, especially the older ones, there will be various flaws that are often inherent to ephemeral paper items of this age: curled or folded page corners, age toning and minor stains, tattered or chipped page edges, etc. I can't list every single little flaw, but will do my best to mention the major things to avoid disappointment. Just remember, these are all old and often not entirely perfect, but can still make a nice addition to your collection! For the most part, this almanac usually had 32 pages (16 leaves, with one leaf of paper consisting of 2 pages when counting both the front and back). Of course, I will be happy to provide combined shipping if you purchase multiple almanacs. Condition of these issues: 1890: poor, back cover detached, front cover very loose, 16 leaves 1891: fair, 16 leaves
