Up for auction is an unusual oil or kerosene lamp or lantern wall bracket lamp. Front is signed “Adams & Westlake Co. Chicago Patented May 6 ‘90”. They began making lanterns and lamps in 1874 primarily for the Railroad, this looks to be from an old train car or station. Very heavy (about 9 pounds unpacked), primarily cast brass, about 12” tall, and protrudes from the wall about 12”. Looks a bit like a student lamp set-up, with a removable oil tank that is part thinner brass and part magnetic heavy metal just twist in to engage a spring to release the oil, pseudo center draft burner, looks to take a 2 ½” chimney or globe. Condition is good, some light dents mostly in the thin brass tank, appears to be missing a drip cup and maybe some burner parts, t is a 4” shade ring lightly soldered to the gallery, the tank has some oxidation and small holes on the bottom section, the wall plate appears to be a replacement, but it is thick steel to hold up that brute. Unusual lamp, not my area of expertise, but looks like a pretty neat early Railroad type light for collection, display, or restoration. Terms for closing the sale.
