We buy all of our coins based upon eye appeal, not the grade on the holder or the company that assigned the grade. Keep in mind that the grade on the holder is the opinion of the independent grading company, and theirs alone. Our photographs are enlarged many times, showing imperfections that would often be invisible to the human eye. Imperfections, such as bag marks, are more evident on smaller coins, as these are greatly enlarged in our images. Since all of our photos are shot through third party grading company holders, there are instances where marks, scratches, and other artifacts appear to be on the coin when they're actually on the plastic holder. In these cases, we'll mention such in the description of the coin. VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BELOW PRIOR TO PLACING ANY BIDS. Offered for sale is an exceedingly scarce, 1890-CC Type 3, With Motto, $20.00 Liberty Head Gold Double Eagle. This coin has been judged to be in Near Gem, uncirculated, MS64 condition. Please note that while the coin is simply gorgeous, and has astounding surfaces, it will not crossover to a top-tier third party grading company. We make this statement, so as to inform the buyer, that this coin has already been sent to one of the top-tier third party graders. Their conclusion is that the coin is genuine, non-cleaned, and in BU/MS condition. What they didn't tell us, is that due to something else, the coin would have received the designation BU/MS Details, and not a regular grade. When we called up the company, we were told that they had no additional information than stated above. The bottom line is, do not bid on this coin if your intention is to send it to another top-tier grading company, hoping for a crossover; it won't. With that said, it's a phenomenal collector coin, being offered to the individual who will be happy leaving it in the MS64 holder that it's currently in. Please note that this coin has never been removed from the holder that we bought it in. No returns will be accepted if this coin is removed from the holder that it's in. We paid a great deal of money to purchase this gold coin, based upon its exceptional eye appeal and extreme rarity. For those buyers who are interested in acquiring a phenomenal, and extremely scarce gold coin, but have no desire to have it graded by another company; you'll be more than thrilled owning this exquisite piece of American history. We believe that the coin is fairly graded as an MS/BU specimen, but as mentioned above, this is our opinion and the opinion of the company that graded it, not one of the top 4 third party graders. We see nothing wrong with either the obverse and reverse sides, other than a few scratches. It may be the scratches that preclude this from grading by a top-tier company; we don't know.
