Part of a Recent Manhattan Estate Purchase included among other items a large collection of vintage books whose focus is the Far East. These books explore the culture, politics, language, and religion of Tibet, China, Mongolia, Japan, etc. This auction is for RARE 1890 illustrated Edition of "INDIEN" by Emil Schlagintweit published by Leipzig, Schmidt & Gunther. This oversized 12 1/2" x 10 1/2" book weighs about 8 lbs. There is no interior writing or bookplate. The cloth boards are brown, blue, black and orange with gilt titles on the front and spine. There are 2 parts to this book, each having it's own frontispieces. Many of the numerous illustrations are full page plates. There is a fold-out map in the rear of this book. Other than some fraying to the spine this 120 year old book is in excellent condition. The picture on the front board along with the gilt titles on the front and spine look fresh and amazing. I am starting the bidding on this auction at $49.99 with no reserve. Shipping in the US of weight of 10 lbs. plus $2.00 for handling and delivery confirmation will be added to the total at the end of the auction.
